What is NVR

Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) is an approach to addressing child-to-parent violence that draws on attachment theory, family systems theory and the principles of the Non-violence resistance social movements.

Parenting a child who is aggressive, controlling, or consistently defiant can be very overwhelming and isolating. Many parents feel trapped in a cycle of fear, guilt, and exhaustion, unsure of how to break free. The Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) model offers a way forward.

Rooted in principles of non-violence, NVR helps parents regain a sense of authority without resorting to punishment or escalation. Instead of battling for control, parents learn how to use their influence by taking a firm yet compassionate stance, strengthening their presence and rebuilding connection with their child.

NVR supports parents in:

• Stepping out of power struggles and responding with clarity and confidence.

• De-escalating conflict while maintaining firm, loving boundaries.

• Rebuilding relationships through connection and presence.

• Letting go of guilt and fear to foster a calmer home environment.

NVR is not about quick fixes—it’s about lasting change. If you’re struggling with child-to-parent violence or challenging behavior, this approach can help you find a new path forward, one rooted in strength, connection, and hope.

The programme involves a 12 session commitment, but the process may take longer. We begin with an initial discussion so I can understand your circumstances and then determine with you if NVR is a suitable option.
